Sunday 17 August 2025 |
We will pick you up from our designated pick-up point and travel towards Letterkenny with our first stop in Monaghan where you will have time to visit Monaghan County Museum if you wish or just have a stroll, a browse and some lunch before we continue on to Letterkenny where you will arrive at the hotel to check in with time to freshen up before dinner. (D, B&B)
Monday 18 August 2025 |
This morning, after breakfast, we will visit Glenveagh National Park. Glenveagh Castle was built in the 1870s by the Adair family and the last owner, Henry McIlhenny, transformed the gardens to their present beauty. The park is now operated by the OPW. Surrounded by the famous Glenveagh Gardens, its construction in a remote mountain setting was inspired by the Victorian idyll of a romantic highland retreat. You will have a guided tour of the Castle after which you will have plenty of time to enjoy a stroll in the Walled Gardens – an experience not to be missed. You will also be able to have lunch in the tea rooms before we depart and make our way back to Letterkenny where you will have the afternoon free to explore the “Cathedral Town” – visit St Eunan’s Cathedral or the Donegal County Museum perhaps. Or you might like to visit some of the many traditional cafes or pubs and just relax for a while before returning to the hotel in time for dinner. (D,B&B)
Tuesday 19 August 2025 |
After breakfast, we travel to Burtonport where we board the small ferry to Arranmore Island which is rich in history, culture and heritage with many interesting places to see including the Arranmore Lighthouse, the Cave of Slaughter, the Arranmore Island steps, dramatic sea caves and the promontory fort at Uilinn. Learn about the cliffs, beaches, sea stacks and marine life that surround Arranmore during a guided tour on a local bus where we start with a visit to the culture centre before heading off on a scenic tour rounded off with a light lunch in a pub before we leave the island and return to the hotel to freshen up before dinner. Wednesday 20 August 2025 |
Today, after breakfast, we will set off for a leisurely day touring the magnificent Inishowen Peninsula in Co Donegal. This peninsula is perhaps the great overlooked treasure of the Irish landscape. We will visit Doagh Famine Village - a recreation of a village at the time of the Great Potato Famine of the 19th century where there are a number of authentic Irish thatched cottages from the period and figures dressed in authentic costumes. Among the attractions are an Irish wake, hedge school, Catholic mass rock, Orange hall, republican safe house, Presbyterian meeting house and an exhibition about the Irish travelling community. We will continue on to Malin Head and then take the coast road back via Greencastle, Moville, Quigley’s Point, Muff, Burnfoot and return to Letterkenny to our hotel with a little time to relax and freshen up before dinner. Thursday 21 August 2025 |
After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and bid a farewell to Donegal. On the way back to Dublin we will visit the Ulster American Folk Park near Omagh, where you can take a walk around the Emigrants Exhibition which explains the story of over 200 years of migration from Ireland to America meeting an array of costumed characters on your journey with traditional crafts to show, tales to tell and food to share! You will then be returned to your original pick-up point. | Please note terms and conditions apply. |
