Itinerary: | |
Monday 11 August 2025 |
We will pick you up at your designated pick-up points and travel to Dublin Port to catch the morning ferry from Dublin to Holyhead. On arrival in Holyhead, we will disembark and start the journey towards Sheffield where you will be staying for 4 nights with dinner on first and last evenings. (D,B&B)
Tuesday 12 August 2025 |
This morning, after breakfast, we will make our way to Cromford, famous mill town and home of Sir Richard Arkwright who was the inventor of the revolutionary “Spinning Jenny”. We will visit his Mill with its fabulous museum. From here we will continue on along the beautiful gorge of the River Derwent where, in 1698, warm springs were discovered and centuries later the Victorians descended and created Matlock Bath, visited by royalty and made famous by Lord Byron. It became one of the first tourist destinations and was sometimes referred to as the ‘seaside town without a sea’. Matlock Bath is known for its colourful buildings set alongside the River Derwent. We will finish off the day at Derbyshire’s award-winning Crich Tramway Museum where you can enjoy a tram ride in a recreated village street along the mile long track with breathtaking views. |
We will return to the hotel for dinner. (B&B)
Wednesday 13 August 2025 |
After breakfast, we will board the coach and make our way to the magnificent Chatsworth House, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and passed down through sixteen generations. This house is a treasure trove of masterpieces in art, old and modern, from Rembrandt to Nash. There are over 30 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall and regal State Rooms to the family-used chapel and beautiful Sculpture Gallery. After the visit to the house, you will have time to explore the transformed garden with its instantly recognisable fountain. Enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding scenery or treat yourself to something to eat in the beautiful 18th century stable block. After our visit to Chatsworth, we will stop in the nearby town of Bakewell, famed for its pudding, not “tart” as the locals would tell you. This is the biggest town in the Peak District National Park and home to traditional stone buildings, a medieval stone bridge and pretty courtyards. We will have some free time to explore before we return to the hotel with time to freshen up before dinner. (B&B)
Thursday 14 August 2025 |
Today we make our way through the pretty Hope Valley which is one of the best-loved parts of the National Park, passing some of the finest views and picturesque valleys in the region. Take in the spectacular scenery as we make our way through Hathersage, Hope and Castleton, to reach the spa town of Buxton – the ‘Bath’ of the North. This elegant town has been welcoming visitors since Roman times and is renowned for its Georgian and Victorian architecture, range of museums and charming shops, cafes and restaurants. On our way back to Sheffield we will call into Eyam where, if you wish, you can visit the Plague Museum, where the fascinating and heart-breaking story of a village cut off from the world during the Great Plague is told. Dinner is in the hotel in the evening. (D,B&B)
Friday 15 August 2025 |
After breakfast this morning we will check out of the hotel and board the coach to start the journey back to Holyhead. There will be a comfort stop en-route and we will board the afternoon ferry back to Dublin from where you will be transferred back to your original pick-up points. | Please note terms and conditions apply. |
